Most problems with a recorded run come down to GPS or the phone mount. Below are the fixes that solve the common ones, how to send a diagnostic when a number looks wrong, and how to reach a human. Email titef.beckham@gmail.com for anything not covered here.
Getting the beta
AsyncRacing runs as a TestFlight beta on iPhone, and it is free. Start atthe beta page — if public passes are open you can install straight away, and if they are not, joining the list gets you the link when a slot frees up. You need an iPhone on iOS 17 or later.
When a run records badly
Three things cause nearly every bad capture, in order of how often they turn up:
- Location permission. The app needs Precise location while in use. Approximate location returns a rough position with no usable speed, so a run cannot be timed at all.
- The mount. The accelerometer reads acceleration through the car's structure. A phone rigidly mounted to the dash or windscreen reads the car; a phone loose on a seat or in a cup holder reads itself bouncing around. Any orientation is fine — rigid is what matters.
- Staging. After arming, sit still for a couple of seconds before you launch. The app waits to confirm the car is genuinely stationary before it will start a standing run, and it shows STAGED once it has. If you never see STAGED, you never fully stopped.
Sending a diagnostic
If a number still looks wrong, the fastest route to a fix is the SHARE DIAGNOSTIC button on the run's result screen. It writes a text file containing every GPS fix as the phone received it, what the app derived from it, the conditions, and the sensor health — enough to tell whether the problem was the signal or the maths. Send that file and describe what the runshould have been.
Beta expectations
This is pre-release software. Things change, occasionally break, and server-side data such as runs and rankings may be reset before release. Treat recorded numbers as indicative rather than as a timeslip, and keep anything you care about backed up elsewhere.
Safety and where you can record
Record only at a drag strip or on private, closed land you have permission to use, and only when it is safe and lawful. Public-road runs are never scored, never ranked and never leave your phone. Never operate a phone while driving — mount it, arm it before you move, or have a passenger run the app. The full terms are in Terms of Use.
Privacy and your data
Location and motion are read only while a capture is armed, never in the background. There are no ads, no third-party tracking and no data sale. The privacy policylists every field that is collected and why, and account deletion is immediate and complete.
